BackStop Neural Bolsters Advisory Board with Chemist Dr. Benjamin Lund

Dr. Lund joins BackStop Neural's Advisory Board
Dr. Benjamin Lund holds a PhD in chemistry and nearly 20 years of experience in synthetic organic chemistry.

October 8, 2024 – BackStop Neural, a pioneer in the development of the world’s first thin film-based spinal cord stimulator (SCS) paddle lead, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Benjamin Lund to its Advisory Board. Dr. Lund, an expert in organic and small-molecule chemistry, brings a wealth of knowledge in polymer synthesis and chemistry that will directly support BackStop Neural’s ongoing efforts to optimize temperature sensitive softening polymers for microfabrication in medical devices.

Dr. Lund's previous work at Adaptive3D and the Center for Engineering Innovation at UT Dallas involved developing advanced materials with a focus on precision thermo-mechanical properties, including oxygen tolerance and enhanced toughness. His expertise will be instrumental in advancing BackStop Neural’s innovation of biocompatible, flexible materials crucial for the next generation of implantable neural devices.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Lund to our Advisory Board,” said BackStop Neural Chief Product Officer Kial Gramley. “His chemistry background and proven ability to engineer materials with precision will be invaluable as we continue to develop and manufacture the world’s most advanced spinal cord stimulation leads for chronic pain and motor recovery.”

Dr. Lund is excited to collaborate with BackStop Neural: “I am excited to join the Advisory Board at BackStop Neural and contribute to its pioneering work in implantable neural technologies. The opportunity to optimize softening polymers and install reliable, scalable chemical manufacturing processes is a compelling opportunity, and I look forward to collaborating with the team to help advance materials that improve both patient outcomes and device performance.”

Dr. Lund holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UT Dallas and is credited with more than 10 patents. His experience in managing large-scale research projects and his leadership in the field of materials science makes him an ideal addition to BackStop Neural as the company accelerates its product development.

“We're incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Lund on our Advisory Board,” said Connie Manz, CEO of BackStop Neural. “In addition to his leadership on multimillion-dollar research projects at the Center for Engineering Innovation at UT Dallas, Dr. Lund also made significant strides in developing advanced elastomeric polymers for additive manufacturing during his time at Adaptive3D. His expertise in both chemistry and materials science will be instrumental as we push forward in optimizing polymers for our implantable medical devices.”
