BackStop Neural Hires Senior Product Engineer to Advance Spinal Cord Stimulation Innovations


November 29, 2023 – Backstop Neural proudly announces the addition of Pedro Rocha, PhD, as a pivotal member of its product development team. Dr. Rocha joins the pioneering medical device company with a wealth of expertise and a distinguished background in mechatronics, materials science, and flexible electronics.


Dr. Rocha holds both a PhD in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas; his bachelor's degree in mechatronic engineering is from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de la Región Carbonífera. He has published nine peer-reviewed papers in the field of flexible electronics for medical applications, holds two patents, and has presented papers at the North American Neuromodulation Society and the Biomedical Engineering Society. His academic journey has been exceptional marked by numerous accolades including recognition as the best student of the graduating class of Mechatronics Engineering.

Dr. Rocha began his career in 2009 as a Professor at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de la Región Carbonífera; his expertise covered a range of subjects from computer-aided design and manufacturing to advanced automation. In 2012, while continuing to teach, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing a company that focused on automation projects within automotive and metal mechanical industries.


Balancing academia and industry seamlessly, Dr. Rocha collaborated with numerous companies on innovative projects, spanning smart electronic devices to fully automated machines. His impactful contributions earned him recognition as a National Innovation Promoter by the Tecnológico Nacional de México.


As Dr. Rocha takes on the role of senior product engineer at BackStop Neural, his multifaceted background in mechatronics, materials science, flexible electronics, and biomedical engineering will catalyze the development of groundbreaking neurostimulation technologies.
